No other words can describe it except “This Book ROCKS!” My Life with Laura: A Love Story is exactly what the title implies. A love story not only of his wife but his daughter Charlotte as well. I could only hope I would have the courage and strength to tackle what Chad has done with such grace and sincerity. He has successfully and eloquently captured his whole life with Laura, before, during and after stupid breast cancer. Read with caution as it will take hold of your emotions and give you insights you never thought existed.
Chad walks you through some of the hardest times of his life and lets us see the very pain him and Charlotte suffered. While the book is a love story it is also very informative on the stages of breast cancer and the treatments currently available. Chad is able to insert the information to help others while not taking away from any of the story.
This book is dedicated to his daughter so she will know her mother better. I can confidently say Charlotte will be forever grateful and cherish this book for eternity. I never knew Laura and have briefly spoken with Chad via email and yet I feel as if I have known them forever. His words make her come alive and jump off of the very pages in the book. I just know when Charlotte is older she will read and re-read while asking Chad questions to get to know her even more. And because Laura wanted for Charlotte to know God this book will help Charlotte on her journey to trust the heavenly father as she did.
This is the kind of book once you have met the cast of characters you do not want to put it down until you know what happens. Although your brain knows what will happen to Laura you love the journey Chad carries you through and how he lets you into his life with his words.
I love the way Chad includes his emails and Laura’s excerpts from her journal. This personal touch gives the book the reality to relate and know they are real and not just characters. To top it all of Chad includes letters to Charlotte at the end from all of Laura’s friends and family about who she was to them. Reading through the letters made my eyes cry a river of tears as you can tell how deeply many loved her. It makes you wonder why would God take someone such as Laura so soon? I do not know but man I wish I did. I must say I am with Chad on this one. She deserved to live longer but I was glad to know the suffering was not an eternity.
Being a breast cancer survivor this book covers many of the issues I constantly think about and even some I try to not even address out of fear. Chad covers it all and lets the reader know it is okay to go through the process. Like I said earlier I admire Chad for his courage to write this book. It will forever be a part of me. After reading the book you will find yourself wanting to be a better person and embracing life with the spirit of Laura at your side.
